The Bee's Spell.

Inspired by a fragment of 16th/17th Bartman jug/Bellarmine pottery that I found in the garden. 'Bartmann' (in german, means bearded man), jugs were also believed to be used as witch bottles. Part of the cottage here was built in the 1660's so I like to imagine the bottle was buried with a spell to ward off evil spirits and over the years was broken. I'm hoping that maybe one day I may come across the other parts of it. In this painting it is the bee's that are enchanted with the old jug that sits forgotten at the bottom of the garden.
